David Hanes (b. 1987, Canada/USA) is an artist based between London and Berlin. His work begins outdoors, with hand-held sketches carried sometimes for years — filtered through memory, distance, and time before transforming in the studio into colour-driven oil paintings or watercolours. Made slowly by hand over weeks of layering, his paintings become dwelling-places that hold a felt tension between creation, stillness, and the weight of being alive: grief and hope, loss and longing, suffering and curiosity.
